The Raptor Series

Robert Westrich is a professional photographer of 30 years. His interest in and passion for photography could be considered a birthright. His father opened his studio in 1947, developed his craft over the decades, and his zeal for fine portraiture and was an influence from his earliest years. Since then other photographers Yousuf Karsh, Arnold Newman, & Alfred Stieglitz and many other artists have had a heavy influence.

His work has utilized both the most sophisticated strobe lighting available and the delicate nuances of natural light, in both color and black and white.

Robert's decision to undertake The Raptor Series was spawned by a chance encounter at a demonstration by The World Bird Sanctuary with a South American White Hawk named "Ivory," her simple black and white beauty brought forth this entire series. his attraction to this magnificent bird was powerful and instantaneous. he immediately began conjuring up ideas for capturing this raptor photographically. Yet, never knew that this desire to share the beauty of this single bird would evolve into such an extensive project is perhaps only understandable when you view the full series. One bird led to another, each seeming to reach out for the lens with a provocative personality and presence all its own. He allowed himself the latitude to take the images wherever the birds led him and the result is a collection of portraiture of which Robert is extremely proud. His hope is, they are enjoyed in equal measure by those who view them.

  • In less than one year The Raptor Series went from inception, to limited edition prints being delivered to collectors in twenty two countries around the world.
  • Robert Westrich is now (2009 - 2013) the "Official Artist" for The FIS Alpine World Cup held in Beaver Creek, CO.
